Demo!

I've had a few requests for a demo on my digital painting process. Here's a 10 minute video demonstrating one of the ways that I like to sketch. I decided to blab over it, to clarify a few things that may not be apparent if it were just fast-forward video. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Thank you so much for posting this. This was seriously an awesome demo.

I saved your blog to my read list because I liked a few of your sketches and your DS sketches but had no idea you were a matte painter till I watched this demo and investigated further.

Seriously awesome tips in this vid. Thanks so much again.

thanks for sharin ur approach :) the demo is fantastic ,i think pullin out more comprehnsive shapes off abstract forms makes the final rendetion more organic ..more like the way it exists in nature .i really like the way u choose ur colors n ur strong traditional approach:)
:)

Glad you like it!
Matt, my alter ego is a matte painter. I don't push that too much on my blog, because I prefer a more painterly look to my own work. But I do love that art form as well.

Marco, great artwork. How much extra time are you gonna (or did) you put in to finish this piece?

Cool demo Marco! I'm glad you talked over it, otherwise I wouldn't have learned the color adjustment + mask layer trick. Nice voice too!

Thanks guys.
Edo - I put maybe 15 more minutes into it. I changed some of the right side of the picture (like I mentioned in the voiceover), added a few more lights to the foreground, and most importantly, sharpened the edge of the middleground mountain, where it meets the background. It was getting a little lost back there before.

Thank you so much for sharing and thank you even more for doing a voiceover instead of just letting it run to some background music.
